| Biking at night |
11:41 pm |
I biked home this evening, which was nice. It felt good to be back on the bike, but those hills felt harder and it took me longer than it should.
The ride from work to my apartment is 7.58 miles according to my cyclocomputer (which was right on all of the mile markers for the Tour de Cure, so I'm assuming it is set properly), so Yahoo was right. It took 46 minutes tonight. There was a time that I was doing it 10 minutes faster, I need to get back to that. :) More working out, less being lazy for me.

Had fun at Aikido tonight. We are working on doing techniques blind which is fun and challenging.
I felt really stiff tonight. I need to stretch more.

| Never could get the hang of Thursdays |
01:25 pm |
I haven't felt particularly well all day. Just kind of down in the dumps and achy. I did go for a ~30 minute walk during my lunch break. I went around campus and then over to the woods by Marston House. I sat and meditated for about 5 minutes while over there. I sat on a nice rock between the trees overlooking the water. It was nice and peaceful. A groundhog and a woodpecker kept me company. I just worked on focusing on my breathing and clearing my mind.

| Two days, two posts! |
10:31 pm |
Aikido today for about an hour and a half. It was a nice class and it felt good to be on the mat. We focused on relaxation and being relaxed while doing techniques. We did the techniques with our eyes closed!

| I got on my bike today! |
10:28 pm |
I got up early and biked up to Garrison Hill to watch the sunrise, then down to the cemetary to clear off my uncle's grave marker. It was about 5 miles and total time on the bike was about 30 minutes (I forgot to write down what my cyclocomputer said). It wasn't a long ride, but it was nice to be on a bike and I got some decent hills in. :)

Woke up too late to catch the bus and too early to catch the train, so I did AM Yoga.
I wish it would stop raining. *sigh*

I don't really have a good excuse for not working out. Being busy and crappy weather just doesn't cut it. But I did go for a 30 minute walk today, which was nice.

| Aikido - Takashi visit and testing |
08:03 pm |
Takashi kicked our butts today in class. He spent the first two hours putting the black belts through their paces and then a little over an hour having us review techniques from the 6th kyu test. Which was really good, I learned a bunch of new refinements to some basic techniques. And then we did testing.
There was a 6th kyu test and another 3rd kyu test in addition to my test. Everyone did really well. It was a little grueling, but fun. In addition to the normal ki testing, I had to stand on my toes with my arms open wide while someone tested my balance and stability. The techniques I had to show were called out rapidly to give me little time to think. Then I had to do free-style against two opponents. They had reserve ukes, so the ukes could get replaced when they got tired. I could barely breathe by the time I was done. Then I did kokidosa, answered my silly question as loud as I could and did my bows.
Takashi likes to ask a question at the end of the test that relates to the Aikido principles and he makes you answer as loudly as you possibly can. My question this test: "You're the manager of a major company and your opponents aren't doing their work. What Aikido principle would you tell them to use to do their work?" My answer made no sense, but it was loud. ;)
I'm stiff, sore and happy.

I'm a little sore and stiff in places (especially my knee), but I'm doing pretty good. I did AM Yoga and 20 sit-ups this morning. I think the yoga really helped my knee from being so stiff.

| "And the shoes on the feet go squish, squish, squish" |
05:29 pm |
Well, today was the Tour de Cure. We started off with overcast skies and cool temperatures. Pretty good biking weather actually, until it started raining. For about 10-15 miles we had pouring rain. That was unpleasant. Overall, I really enjoyed the ride though. The scenery was beautiful and the company was good. I felt pretty good for the bulk of the ride (my knee started bothering me half way through, took some vitamin I and was able to finish).
I felt so good, that I decided to go to Aikido afterwards. :) Although it certainly wasn't my best showing there.
( Map, Route and Pictures )
I raised a total of $660 for the American Diabetes Association. Thank you everyone who sponsored me!
I'm already looking forward to and planning for next year's ride! :)

| Aikido |
07:48 pm |
We ran the black belts through their paces against sword and keri tonight, so a whole lot of ukeing. Fortunately, the forward rolls that result from a sword attack are all on one side and it's not the side that hurts my bad knee.
Weight: 237lb.

| Aikido |
10:45 pm |
It was a good class today. I spent most of it reviewing for my 3rd kyu test, which I'm feeling much more comfortable about doing in a couple weeks. My knee is feeling better, but it definately wasn't happy with me at some points in class.

| Grrr...flat tire |
07:04 pm |
My rear tire is completely flat. :( Kinda annoyed about that. So I went for an hour long walk today. Found out that they've put up a fence between the mini dorms and College Woods to prevent people from walking on the railroad tracks. :( After I came back, I did two sets of 10 push-ups.
